Two months later

“Look at this shit, Kia!” my best friend, Ebony, of many years said, coming over to me and handing me her cellphone.

Whatever it was, it had to be something major because I was in the middle of finishing up a client. I wasn’t rich or anything like that, but when the first of the month came, and I had to pay my bills, I didn’t have to drop down to my knees and please a nigga in hopes that he would put some money in my hands so I could pay my bills.

I rented out a suite in an office building, where I ran my company that was called Shakia’s Dollhouse, and I specialized in everything from mink lashes, facials, waxing, and I was taking courses now to learn how to do makeup so that I could eventually become licensed in that as well.

My business was growing by the day, and I was hoping to one day be able to break my lease and have an actual storefront of my own. People saw me, and the first thing that they were able to say about me was that I was either ghetto or I was hot tempered, but I swear they forgot to look at all of the positive shit that I did for Miami.

For example, this past school year, I handpicked five senior girls to come into my studio the night of their prom, and they got everything done at my studio for free. They didn’t even talk about the back to school drive that I was organizing this school year because it was as if motha fuckas were blind when it came to my positivity. One things for sure though, if I got into a fight tonight, that would be the talk of Miami.

I was aware of the fact that I was like a ticking time bomb when it came to my temper, and I’ve gotten into so many fights in my lifetime that I’ve literally lost count. I promise that I was trying to do better; it was just motha fuckas continued to try me.

I quickly finished putting the last lash on my client, and I had just lifted my head up to see exactly what it was that Ebony was showing me on her phone while she continued to hold onto it. It was an interview with Messiah and whoever the interviewer was, they were asking him if the rumors about him dating Ryan, which was a new singer from Miami, were true. That nigga was showing all fuckin’ thirty-two of his teeth as he thought about that bitch, and I wanted to shoot his ass.

Fuck, there goes my temper again. He loved her fat ass, and for what reason, I swear I didn’t know. First off, I’ve known about Ryan and Messiah for years now because word always traveled through Miami, and it didn’t take long for that to get back to me. That was years ago, though, when the bitch was still in high school and was living with her mama.
